THE POSITION

The Running Springs Water District is recruiting to fill a full-time Firefighter/Paramedic position in the Fire Department. Presently the Department has one open position. This position will be assigned to a 56 hour work week, and, under supervision, participate in all phases of fire suppression, provide basic and advanced life support, and ambulance transports and respond to other emergency calls to protect life and property. Perform fire prevention inspections, station and equipment maintenance, training activities, reports and records, and other duties as required.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Respond to a variety of emergency and routine incidents as part of a response team; lay hose, place ladders, ventilate buildings, perform salvage and overhaul operations. Perform basic life and advanced life support functions, command the initial attack response. Perform routine maintenance of station, apparatus and related equipment; perform fire safety inspections of buildings for adherence to regulations and perform pre-fire plans, participate in scheduled drill and training activities; perform other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Applicant must:

Be a non-smoker.

Be a minimum of 18 years of age at the time of application.

Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.

Provide verification of the legal right to work in the United States.

Be a currently licensed Paramedic by the State of California and accredited by San Bernardino County EMS Agency.

Possess a California State Firefighter I certificate.

Possess a current California Class ‘C’ driver’s license along with a driving record acceptable to the District and it’s insurance carrier.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS

Pass a written entry-level firefighter examination with a minimum of 70 percentile.

Pass an entry-level firefighter oral examination.

After a conditional offer of employment has been made, each applicant is required to undergo a medical examination and a Department approved Physical Agility Test. Exception – Those candidates that are lateral transfers will not be required to take the physical agility test.

Pass a background and/or criminal investigation.


CONDITIONS OF CONTINUED EMPLOYMENT

Applicant must:

Be physically fit to perform the work of the position. In addition, fitness maintained during the course of employment.

Maintain Paramedic license by the State of California and accreditation by San Bernardino County EMS Agency through course of employment.

Maintain a driving record acceptable to the District and it’s insurance carrier through course of employment.

Be a non-smoker due to the increase in associated health risk and the necessity to maintain good physical condition.

Acquire and maintain a current State of California Firefighter Class 'B' Driver's License

Successfully complete a one-year probationary period.

EMPLOYEE BENEFITS

Compensation: Salary reviews annually.

Paid Time Off: 112 hours per year – 1 through 5 years of continuous service.

168 hours per year – 6 through 10 years of continuous service.

224 hours per year for 11 years or more of continuous service.

(Accrued by pay period).

Sick Leave: 12 hours accrued monthly.

Holidays: 240 hours paid holiday credit per year.

Health Insurance: Currently, the District contributes the cost of the premium for the employee, and dependents up to a maximum of $771.41 per month.

Life Insurance: Safety Member Eligible Employees are currently provided with $25,000 life insurance at no cost.

Retirement: Public Safety membership in PERS 3% @ 50 formula. District pays employee’s contribution.
